Don P. Mitchell

Don Phillip Mitchell was born in 1912 to the union of Charles Edward Mitchell and Harriet Phillips in St. Joseph, Michigan. Harriet Phillips, Don’s mother was born in St. Joseph. Her father was a plasterer and her mother was a homemaker. They had four daughters, Sadie, LuMary, Harriet, and Cynthia Viola and one son, Thomas.

Katherine E. Mitchell

Katherine E. Mitchell was born on December 6, 1913 in Kewanee, Illinois. She was adopted as a newborn, by Janet and Ethel Watts. She had one step-brother, Sylvester Steen. She came to Benton Harbor at an early age and attended school in the Benton Harbor area. She met and married the love of her life, Don P. Mitchell. They were married 68 years before his passing.

A picture of Mom (Katherine E. (Watts) Mitchell at the age of 7. It was taken at the home of her parents, Janet and Ethel Watts in Freeport, Illinois. She was with her two cousins.

Local newspaper, The Herald Palladium (5/27/66) did a front page article ``Whole Mitchell team Goes Through BHHS``. Steve Mitchell will be the last of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. Don P. Mitchell family to be graduated from BHHS when he receives his diploma on June 6, 1966.

Ex-federal building to be named for Don Mitchell. February 26, 2002. City commissioners voted unanimously to name the building the Don P. Mitchell Commercial Building.

Duane Edgar Mitchell is the fifth of eight children born to Don and Katherine Mitchell. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on November 25, 1939.

Don C. Mitchell was the sixth of eight children born to Don and Katherine Mitchell. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on May 12, 1941.

Kathleen Ellen Bowman (Mitchell) is the seventh of eight children born to Don and Katherine Mitchell. She was born in Benton Harbor September 17, 1943.

Steve Mitchell
The 8th Child

Stephen Edward Mitchell is the last of eight children born to Don and Katherine Mitchell. He was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on March 11, 1948.
